Jane 's Addiction returned to the stage after a period in the studio last year. On the 5th, the group performed in Bakersfield, California, and played, for the first time, a song titled "True Love".
“We’re going to leave you with a brand new song that nobody’s ever heard before. You can hear it first,” Perry Farrell told the crowd midway through his encore at Bakersfield’s Mechanics Bank Arena. It was then that he revealed the song’s title, “True Love,” and concluded his 17-song set.
The song is melancholic and hypnotic, and to present it, the band created a more tranquil atmosphere with bassist Eric Avery seated and Farrell and substitute guitarist Josh Klinghoffer accompanying the sound.
It is unknown whether the song comes from the band's songwriting sessions in 2022 or if it has been in the works for longer.
The Bakersfield show was the band's first on a tour that includes Brazil on March 23rd and 25th, with a solo show and another at Lollapalooza . The group features Klinghoffer filling in for Dave Navarro, who is not participating in the tour due to long-term COVID-19 complications .
